About Shirou

Hello!

My name is Shirou, and I am a UK-qualified Medical Doctor with over 10 years of tutoring experience and a PGCert in Education with Distinction. Alongside my clinical career, teaching has always been something I have been deeply passionate about. Having found my own early years at school challenging and, at times, feeling that my education was not tailored to the way I learned, I developed a strong understanding of how differently every student learns.

During my own time at school, I was told on several occasions that I would never make it to medical school. Rather than allowing those opinions to define my future, I worked hard to achieve my goal of becoming a doctor. That journey gave me a deep appreciation of how important it is for a student to have someone who believes in them, particularly when they may not yet fully believe in themselves.

Over the years, I have learned to recognise and build upon each student's individual strengths, learning style and potential, rather than expecting every student to learn in exactly the same way. My aim is not simply to help students achieve better grades, but to help them genuinely understand how they learn best, develop confidence in their abilities and become more independent and motivated learners.

As both a doctor and an educator, I bring strong academic knowledge, extensive teaching experience and an understanding of the pressures students can face. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed when they are given the right support, teaching approach and encouragement, and I would love to help you achieve your goals.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is personalised, supportive and focused on helping students genuinely understand a subject rather than simply memorising content. I typically begin by developing a strong understanding of the core concepts through clear, structured and step-by-step explanations. We then apply this knowledge to a variety of questions and scenarios, before consolidating learning through exam-style questions that gradually increase in difficulty. This approach helps students build not only their knowledge, but also their confidence and ability to apply what they have learned independently.

Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. I adapt my teaching style to their strengths, areas for development and preferred way of learning, ensuring that lessons are both effective and engaging. Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on the student's age and individual needs.

With over 10 years of tutoring experience, a PGCert in Medical Education with Distinction and my experience as a UK-qualified Medical Doctor, I teach students across a range of ages and abilities in English, Maths and Science. This includes younger students in primary school looking to build confidence and strengthen their academic foundations, as well as older students preparing for important examinations and competitive university applications. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves, while developing the knowledge and confidence they need to achieve their full potential.
