I qualified as a Primary School Teacher specialising in English and SEN in 2001 gaining a BA (Hons) Education 2:1.
I started my career with a Supply Agency teaching in various Primary and Secondary Schools, including a school catering for PMLD students.
My first long term cover was for a year teaching GCSE Maths in a local large Secondary School. I was offered a job teaching GCSE English there but decided the school wasn't for me so went back on supply.
I had a weeks supply work in a Pupil Referral Unit, which led to me becoming a Key Stage 4 teacher working with 14-16 year olds with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. I've now been there 14 years and have progressed to Deputy Head and have been the Acting Head since Sept 2015. Between my head teacher duties I still teach GCSE English. I have also taught GCSE Maths and English to some of the support staff.
Due to the nature of the PRU I have taught the following subjects up to GCSE Level:
Maths
English Language
Science
Preparation for Working Life
ICT
Welsh
Whilst at the Unit I have also gained a diploma in computing and a diploma in Information Technology. I completed 3/4 of a computing degree through the Open University.
I enjoy writing in my spare time and have had poetry and short stories published. I also enjoy riding my motorbike, however with 3 young children finding the time for my bike is very difficult.
I am a flexible, patient and honest person with the ability to teach to some of the most deprived young people as well as those with diagnosed medical conditions such as ADHD, ASD and depression.
