About Charlotte

I am a qualified science teacher with over eight years of experience (qualified 2017). having worked in two diverse schools and served as an Assistant Head of Year. My passion for teaching goes beyond just delivering lessons—I’m dedicated to building students’ confidence, fostering self-belief, and supporting their overall growth as young adults.

My fascination with science led me to pursue a degree in the subject, and I find immense fulfillment in helping students appreciate how science connects to everyday life. Whether it’s guiding them through complex concepts or tackling misconceptions and low confidence, I strive to create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to succeed. Watching them gain confidence and progress to the next stages of their journey is what motivates me every day and working as a tutor enables me to break down some of the biggest barriers students have in a busy classroom environment.

I now work as Third in Charge of a Science Department, balancing this with being a Mum of two young Children.

About the lesson

I strive to create a learning environment where students feel safe, supported, and confident enough to make mistakes—and most importantly, learn from them. Science is a fascinating subject that sparks curiosity and critical thinking. Even for those who may not pursue it as a long-term career, the GCSE curriculum offers valuable lessons and skills that are applicable to everyday life, from problem-solving to understanding the world around us.

Each lesson is carefully tailored to meet the individual needs of the student, whether it’s focused on exam preparation, reinforcing previously covered content, or introducing new material in preparation for upcoming topics. At the start of each session, we discuss what we will cover in that hour and check-in, or create a medium term plan to help us meet our goals. I like to refer to the GCSE specification throughout so that students are confident that we are covering exactly what they need to know as this is key to success in their exams.

Sessions are laid-back in the comfort of the student’s own home, or online and can include with mini-lessons, practice with exam-style questions, and interactive Q&A, fostering a comprehensive and engaging learning experience. My hope is that students feel that this is the investment in their learning that enables them to reach their potential.

You are very conscientious and are trying really hard. It is great that you ask questions and aren't afraid to say something even if your not 100% sure... the key to science is there is so many things we don't know the answers to but curiosity is what makes us want to find the answers out! You should be really proud of how far you've come in such a short space of time.
