About David
I am a fully qualified Science Teacher (QTS) with over 13 years of teaching experience across state schools, independent education, online schools and private tuition.
I hold a PGCE in Secondary Science (Chemistry) with Qualified Teacher Status from Kingston University and a BSc (Hons) in Geology from Birkbeck, University of London.
Throughout my career, I have taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Key Stage 3 and GCSE, including GCSE Combined Science. This breadth of experience enables me to support students across the entire Double Award curriculum, helping them develop a more connected and confident understanding of science.
Between 2019 and 2025, I established and ran a successful private science tuition business, delivering personalised online and face-to-face tuition. My practice developed a strong client base through recommendations and referrals, reflecting my commitment to providing reliable, professional and effective educational support.
My teaching experience includes working with students of widely differing abilities, confidence levels and educational needs. I have also supported students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including autistic and visually impaired learners, adapting my approach to suit their individual circumstances.
Alongside classroom teaching and private tuition, I have held responsibilities for gifted and talented education and curriculum enrichment, and have extensive experience delivering lessons in fully online learning environments.
I understand that students do not always struggle because they lack ability. Sometimes they need a different explanation, additional time, a more structured approach or simply the encouragement to believe that they can succeed.
I pride myself on being patient, approachable and supportive while maintaining high expectations and clear academic goals.
My aim is to help students feel more confident, motivated and capable, whether they are overcoming difficulties, working towards essential qualifications or striving to achieve their full academic potential.

I offer personalised GCSE Combined Science (Double Award) tuition covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics, delivered by a fully qualified Science Teacher (QTS) with over 13 years of experience in classroom teaching, online education and private tuition.
**My teaching approach**
I understand that not every student finds science easy or enjoyable. Some struggle with particular topics, others lack confidence in their abilities, and some may have lost motivation after finding lessons or assessments difficult.
My approach is patient, supportive and encouraging. I aim to create a relaxed, positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their understanding without fear of judgement.
Every student is different, so I adapt my teaching to their individual needs, abilities and learning goals. I focus on identifying gaps in knowledge, addressing misconceptions and breaking complex scientific ideas into clear, manageable steps.
I believe that confidence and motivation often improve when students begin to experience success. By setting achievable goals, recognising progress and building on what students already understand, I help them develop a more positive attitude towards science.
Lessons typically include clear explanations, diagrams, worked examples, interactive questioning, problem-solving activities and examination-style questions. I encourage students to participate actively rather than simply listen, helping them develop the confidence to explain scientific ideas and apply their knowledge independently.
**Examination preparation**
I provide targeted support across all three sciences, helping students understand the key concepts, develop practical and mathematical skills, interpret scientific data and approach examination questions with greater confidence.
I have experience teaching specifications from major examination boards, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas, CCEA and Cambridge International. Lessons can be aligned with the student's particular course and examination requirements.
Whether a student is working towards securing a pass, improving their current grades or aiming for the highest possible results, I provide structured and achievable support tailored to their goals.
**Lesson structure and duration**
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate.
Each lesson is planned around the student's needs and priorities. We may focus on a single challenging topic, revisit essential knowledge from earlier years, prepare for an upcoming assessment or work systematically through areas of the examination specification.
I use regular questioning, assessment and constructive feedback to monitor understanding, recognise progress and identify what needs further attention.
**Who are my lessons for?**
My lessons are suitable for GCSE Combined Science (Double Award) students who:
- Lack confidence in science or feel overwhelmed by the subject.
- Find it difficult to stay motivated or engaged with their studies.
- Have gaps in their understanding of Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
- Need help developing scientific, mathematical or examination skills.
- Want to improve their grades, whether working towards a pass or aiming for grades 7–7, 8–8 or 9–9.
- Benefit from a patient, structured and personalised approach, including students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
My aim is not simply to improve examination results, but to help students rediscover their confidence, recognise their abilities and develop a more positive relationship with science.
I want every student to finish a lesson feeling that they have understood something new, made genuine progress and are capable of achieving more than they previously believed.
