About Sharavanan

I am a fully qualified science teacher with a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), as well as a degree in Chemistry. I currently work as a secondary school science teacher, teaching Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

During my PGCE training and teaching experience, I have developed a wide range of teaching strategies and techniques that allow me to support students effectively. I have experience teaching both large classes and small groups, adapting my teaching style depending on the student’s learning needs.

I have worked with students aged 11–18, teaching across a range of abilities from foundation sets to higher-attaining classes. I have also taught younger secondary students such as Year 8, helping them build strong foundations in science.

As a current secondary school science teacher, I also have extensive experience with the UK science curriculum and exam expectations, allowing me to guide students effectively and support them in preparing for assessments and exams.

About the lesson

My lessons are carefully structured and tailored to the individual student. I typically begin each session with a short recall or starter activity to revisit previous learning and strengthen long-term retention of key concepts. Lessons are then sequenced carefully, building understanding step by step so that students develop a clear and secure foundation before progressing to more complex ideas. I make use of a variety of self-designed learning tasks, including activities such as fill-in-the-gap exercises to reinforce key knowledge, scaffolded tasks to support learners who need additional guidance, and extension challenges to stretch higher-attaining students. Where appropriate, lessons may also include exam-style questions, interactive activities, and hands-on tasks to help students engage more deeply with scientific concepts. My aim is to create a supportive and structured learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and developing a stronger understanding of Chemistry, Physics and Biology, ultimately helping them improve their grades and become more independent learners.
