About Adriana
I am a lover of art, music, dancing, travel, and literature. I live right by the beach and enjoy an active lifestyle that combines boxing, walks, biking, and the gym.
I was lucky enough to love reading from a young age, which has carried me well through life. I write short stories and poems, as well as read regularly.
I have a degree in English and a postgraduate degree in secondary teaching. I am lucky enough to spend my days teaching English at a Boys’ College full-time.

I am a full-time teacher at a secondary boys school in New Zealand. I specialise in teaching reading, writing, and higher-order thinking. I have a sound knowledge of the NZ curriculum as well as NCEA. I also teach scholarship-level English so can help with preparation for those students are achieving beyond NCEA level 3.
My approach to teaching is catered to the individual, looking to develop trust first so that the student knows that I am a safe person they can rely on. Many people in our country have switched off from learning and have had a negative school experience. This can be due to poor systems of care, prompt trauma, and poor self-confidence.
My goal in my classroom is to re-establish a desire to learn (if needed), restore confidence, then look to extend.
Even the student does not have adverse experiences that hinder their learning, it’s important that they have confidence in their ability and know they can rely on me before we can make strides together.
-I can work effectively with those learners who are struggle and need extra help.
-I can confidently challenge those students already achieving but looking to extend.
-I can find gaps in comprehension, grammar, spelling, foundations, editing skills, and writing to target what needs a student has.
-I understand the systems which NZ students learn in and therefore how to navigate them effectively.
