About Tomas
I hold an engineering degree from the University of Birmingham and a PGCE from the University of Brighton, alongside over 15 years' experience as a qualified secondary maths teacher. I currently teach across Years 7–11 and have previously taught A-level, so I'm well placed to stretch students aiming for the top grades. I keep up to date with current GCSE specifications, exam boards, and learning strategies, rather than relying on outdated methods.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, and as a full-time teacher, safeguarding and professionalism are second nature to me — you can be confident your child is in safe, experienced hands.
I have a strong track record of 1:1 success, particularly with students who have a specific goal in mind — whether that's hitting a target grade or finally conquering a topic they've been stuck on. I know maths can feel daunting for a lot of students, and my priority is always to create a calm, supportive environment where mistakes are part of learning, not something to fear. Parents can expect clear communication, punctuality, and lessons that are genuinely tailored to their child's needs.

I'm a qualified secondary school maths teacher with over 15 years' experience, currently teaching across Years 7–11. I specialise in KS3 and KS4 (GCSE) maths, bringing the same structured, exam-focused approach I use in the classroom into my tutoring.
My approach:
I start by identifying exactly where a student's gaps are — often through a quick assessment or working through recent schoolwork together. From there, I build a plan targeting weak areas while keeping stronger topics fresh. I break concepts into manageable steps, use plenty of worked examples, and make sure students are actively practising, not just watching me solve problems. For GCSE students, I weave in exam technique and past-paper practice throughout, not just in the final weeks.
Lesson length:
Sessions typically run 60 minutes, giving enough time to properly work through a topic without losing focus.
Who this is for:
KS3 students (Years 7–9) building core skills and confidence, and KS4 students (Years 10–11) working towards their GCSEs — whether catching up, staying on track, or pushing for a higher grade.
