About Adam
After over 35 years as a qualified teacher and Senior Leader in schools and teacher training, I now work part time as a Home Tutor (teaching pupils unable to attend school), whilst also acting as a Visiting Assessor for trainee teachers and offering private tuition. My first degree is in Chemistry from St John’s College, Oxford University and I then went on to get a PGCE and M.Ed (University of Birmingham). I love teaching and learning and am passionate about supporting students of all abilities to achieve their potential. My key strengths as a teacher include being able to accurately assess a student’s needs and then flexing my teaching accordingly to maximise their progress. I have always been very successful in building my students’ understanding, confidence and enjoyment. Since starting home tutoring, three years ago, I have a 100% success rate in my students passing exams, despite there often being large gaps in their understanding when I started working with them. I have very positive relationships with all my students and it is a joy to see how their confidence and understanding progresses in each lesson. I love both science (especially chemistry) and mathematics and my students find my enthusiasm for the subjects infectious.

I will listen carefully to each student, as to how they would like to work with me in lessons, and work carefully to teach and explain any concepts or topics they are finding more difficult. I am confident in adapting the use of textbooks, online materials, exam papers/questions and work from their own school to support each student, as they wish and as is appropriate. I am also happy to set work out of lessons, mark completed exam papers/questions and to provide focused feedback. In exam periods I can also offer extra support and lessons if wished. I am happy to teach in person or online, have a full enhanced DBS certificate and am happy for a parent to stay if lessons are taught at my house (Olton, Solihull). In my career I have trained hundreds of teachers and have found the best teachers always ‘go the extra mile’ and put their students at the very heart of the learning process. As a tutor, this is something I promise to do for each of my students myself.
