I have completed a BA (Hons) degree in Education Studies and currently work as a Primary School Class Teacher. My approach to teaching is individualised to the needs of each student and can include supporting your child with their school work, preparing for exams or filling gaps in their undersrtanding. Please see below for some exemplifications of my pedagogy for different age groups:
For Primary School aged children:
- I usually suggest each lesson lasts no longer than an hour (so as to avoid cognitive overload and make each learning experience more valuable).
- I use concrete resources to provide a depth of understanding to difficult to understand abstract concepts.
- I use the national curriculum and a mastery approach to learning mathematics.
- If you are happy to disclose your child's school, I will ensure that my teaching closely reflects the school's teaching principles.
For Secondary School aged children:
- I usually suggest each lesson lasts between an hour and an hour and a half (to allow time to teach, review and address misconceptions within each lesson).
- I plan lessons that provide opportunities for the independent application of learning to exam-style questions.
- I use the national curriculum and your child's examining board to create lessons that will prepare them for their GCSEs.
