About Isabella

I am an experienced secondary school teacher (full QTS status & PGCE) with a passion for education and formation, built on great student-teacher relationships, so that students can excel in the world and deepen their intellectual curiosity. I am passionate about Christian theology after studying it in detail at University & writing my dissertation on Thomas Aquinas. Further, my love for History started at school and A levels and was then deepened at Durham by exploring many different periods from medieval, to renaissance, to early modern and late modern History.

I think I am relatable to students because I know what needs to be done to succeed in exams, as I remember being sat in that chair as a student too and it is not just about what you know but how you write & argue your points. This is a skill that needs to be taught by a trusting and encouraging teacher. I have taught over 900 students in the last three years and have privately tutored in the last year, so I know how to make the most of a one-to-one lesson, so that the student feels heard, motivated and progresses in their learning with confidence and security.

About the lesson

I have three years' experience in classroom teaching with outstanding exam results and student relationships. As a former A level lead for Religious Studies, I have experience in exam preparation and teaching a range of abilities from year 7 to year 13. I have also taught History A level and studied Liberal Arts BA (History & Theology) at Durham University. My A level subjects were History, Philosophy & Ethics, and Geography (A*AA).

My lessons are engaging, enjoyable and effective to learn what you need to learn, appropriately scaffolded so that students are learning new knowledge in manageable chunks. I embed formative assessment to measure how well students have understood a concept or writing technique into my lessons, which allows me to easily adapt my teaching methods if needed throughout the lesson. There is also sufficient challenge in my lessons for students wanting grade 9 and A* and exceptional help on how to write excellent essays and answer difficult exam-style questions. My lessons are from year 7 up to year 13 but mainly for GCSE and A level students. My resources are of the highest quality after having worked in an outstanding school and I mark my students' work also.
