About Letitia

I am an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor of Spanish and EFL, offering outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

I thoroughly enjoy the ability to converse with others in a range of languages and believe that it is an invaluable skill to have. Communication should not be a barrier, particularly in an increasingly globalised society.

I realised by natural affinity for languages in secondary school when my French teacher put me forward for my GCSE exam 2 years early, in year 9.

Wanting an extra challenge, I then decided to study Spanish for my remaining 2 years at school. During this time, I was lucky enough to go on holiday to Spanish-speaking countries with my family. I loved the satisfaction of having a conversation with the locals, and they appreciated the effort too!

I have since dedicated my time in education to not only learning and teaching languages, but on understanding how language is acquired by others.

In 2016 I graduated from the University of Coventry with a Bachelor's Degree of Arts in Spanish and TEFL. During this 4 year course, I achieved CELTA certification, taught English for Academic Purposes in the university and spent 2 months in Oman teaching English.

The third year of my BA degree was spent living in Spain, where I worked in a secondary school as a Language Assistant for the British Council. I also sought out addition work as a tutor in a private academy, providing English lessons to children, teenagers and adults on a 1 to 1 and group basis.

The following year, in 2017, I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, with distinction.

Since then I have also achieved Qualified Teacher Status (from the University of Birmingham) in Modern Foreign Languages. I have 5 years experience teaching GCSE Spanish and KS3 French in a secondary school in Birmingham.

My passion for languages hasn't stopped there, as I then started learning Portuguese. I travel to Portugal twice a year and use this opportunity to keep practising and learning!

About the lesson

My lessons, which typically last 1 hour, are tailored to individual student needs and to suit different learning styles. I like to include a variety of all 4 skills-listening, reading, writing and speaking, unless a specific skill is requested.
I tend to use sentence builders with a variety of vocabulary and grammatical structures included. Focus is placed upon introducing new vocabulary and practising pronunciation, which then leads to receptive practice (listening and reading) and then productive (written and speaking) skills.
The methodology I use helps learners to create meaningful sentences from the get-go and provides both support and challenge at the same time.
I have 5 years experience teaching Edexcel GCSE Spanish in a secondary school.
I gained CELTA certification in 2014 and also have a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages with distinction. I have taught EFL to students of all ages and all levels in Europe and the Middle East in the last 8 years.
