About Tom

I have been teaching for well over 20 years. I have a background in performance and was a silver medallist at Trinity College of Music. I studied my MA in SMU Dallas, Texas. I taught in various schools and privately with 100% pass rate for ABRSM and TCL exams. I have been Senior Lecturer in performance, Course Leader for MA performance and Subject Leader for the music programme at Bath Spa University. I am multifaceted and have an interest in all music styles and disciplines although my specialism is classical. I improvise too and enjoy making bespoke arrangements of any piece of music. I am considered approachable, relatable and nurturing. I love my subject and want to bring the best out of the student.

About the lesson

I meet the student where they are at: we choose between us the repertoire you want to learn and what is appropriate. We then work in a way that works for you. I teach a balance of technique and musicianship.

He’s a natural teacher who can explain complex or abstract concepts and make them understandable ! As an adult learner I was Tom’s piano student for 9 years, and I successfully reached grade 8, with a lot of enjoyment and interesting musical diversions and additional learning along the way !
