About Emmy

I am a PhD student in Education at McGill University and my specialization bridges museum education and history teaching.

I hold a Bachelor and Master of History as well as a diploma in Teaching History at the Post-Secondary Level (CEGEP)from two francophone universities. In the context of those studies, I have been a TA for courses in Canadian History and Modern History at Université de Sherbrooke, and have taught a few courses in "History of the Western Civilization" at Collège Bois-de-Boulogne.

Last year, I have been a TA for the course "Equity in education" at McGill University. This next year, I will teach a course offered to preservice teachers entitled "Teaching Social studies at the Secondary Level".

Also, I have previously worked as an Education Consultant for museums and, for many years, I have been responsible for Education in a history museum in Montreal.

I am a French-native speaker and I have excellent skills in that first language. I have worked as a researcher for a doctoral project on french as a second language. I have been a Web Journalist (Music and concerts) as well. I am now tutoring anglophone students in French.

Bonjour! Je suis étudiante au doctorat en éducation à l'Université McGill et mon projet de recherche connecte les musées et l'histoire.

Je détiens un baccalauréat et une maîtrise en histoire, ainsi qu'un diplôme en enseignement de l'histoire au collégial de deux universités francophones. Au cours de ces études, j'ai été auxiliaire d'enseignement pour des cours en histoire du Canada et en histoire de l'Europe moderne. J'ai eu l'occasion d'enseigner l'histoire de la civilisation occidentale au Collège Bois-de-Boulogne.

Récemment, j'ai été auxiliaire pour un cours intitulé "Équité en éducation" offert à l'Université McGill. Cet hiver, j'enseignerai le cours "Enseignement de l'Univers social au secondaire" aux futurs enseignants.

Également, j'ai travaillé à titre de consultante en éducation pour des musées pour lesquels j'ai conçus des programmes éducatifs destinés aux élèves du primaire et du secondaire. Auparavant, j'ai été responsable de l'éducation et de la communication pour un musée montréalais.

Ma langue maternelle est le français et mes compétences dans cette langue sont excellentes. J'ai eu la chance de travailler comme journaliste web (musique et concerts) pendant deux ans. J'offre maintenant des cours de tutorat en français à des étudiants anglophones.

About the lesson

I am very flexible and I can adapt to my students' capacities. I like to be creative in my lessons and I care to vary my pedagogical approaches to stimulate interest. To me, learning is student-centered. I am helping the student to fulfill a particular task using tips and subtle techniques. At the end of each lesson, the student revisit his or her new knowledge and evaluate his or her own strategies.
Je suis très flexible et je m'adapte aisément au niveau d'habileté de mon étudiant.e. J'aime être créative dans mes leçons et je varie mes approches pédagogiques pour stimuler/raviver l'intérêt. Pour moi, l'apprentissage est centré sur l'élève, il ou elle accomplit la tâche par lui-même/elle-même. À la fin des séances, j'accorde du temps à l'élève afin qu'il révise ses nouvelles connaissances et évalue ses stratégies.
