About Harry

I am a qualified secondary teacher, QUT distinction graduate and current teacher at a leading selective-entry school. I specialize in Mathematics and History, and I am passionate about helping students feel more confident, capable and supported in their learning.

As a classroom teacher, I understand how to explain challenging concepts clearly and adapt my teaching to suit different students. I have experience teaching junior secondary Mathematics, as well as supporting senior pathways including Essential Mathematics and General Mathematics. I also bring a strong understanding of assessment preparation, study skills and how students can improve over time.

Alongside teaching, I have over 15 years of experience as a musician, playing bass and guitar in live, recording and touring environments. I have completed Grade 3 AMEB Music Theory and have practical experience in songwriting, performance, band management and recording.

I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to work closely with students, identify exactly where they need support, and help them build genuine confidence. My goal is to make learning feel clear, achievable and encouraging.

About the lesson

My lessons are personalized, structured and focused on building confidence. I begin by identifying what the student already understands, then break difficult concepts into clear, manageable steps. I use worked examples, guided practice, questioning and regular review to help students become more independent learners.

For mathematics, I support Year 7–12 students, including Essential Mathematics and General Mathematics. Lessons can focus on homework, exam preparation, assessment support, filling gaps in understanding, or extending capable students.

For history, I can help with source analysis, essay writing, research skills, historical concepts and assessment preparation.

For music, I teach bass, guitar, recording and songwriting techniques, practical musicianship. My music lessons can support beginners through to developing musicians who want to improve their playing, creativity, performance skills or understanding of the music industry.

A typical lesson runs for 45-60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged depending on the student’s needs. My approach is calm, patient and practical, with a strong focus on helping students understand the process rather than simply memorizing answers.
