About Sam
If you’re a singer aiming for the kind of vocal reliability and power you hear from a West End star, I’d love to help. From beginner to a pro, I would love to help with your vocal tech.
Hi everyone, I’m Sam Malone, the main Spoken Voice lecturer for BA Acting (Musical Theatre) at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I also teach singing to the MA Musical Theatre students. In these classes I coach singing vocal technique and acting through song. I also teach at RADA, working with NYU students and some of the strongest emerging actors in the UK.
I coach advanced singers who want their technique to feel reliable, not just in the studio, but under pressure in auditions, rehearsals, and long runs.
My work focuses on:
Efficient, repeatable vocal set up, so the voice shows up the same way every time
Breath and pressure balance for stamina and consistency
Registration and mix coordination without pushing
Resonance and projection that stays free, not forced
Clean onset, release, and legato control
Articulation that supports singing, with clarity without jaw or neck tension
High note strategy and endurance for eight show weeks

Bring your track or backing, and we’ll work on making your instrument more consistent, resilient, and free. I also do not follow one prescriptive method. I draw from a range of approaches to help you access your vocal power safely and repeatably.

As a singing and spoken voice specialist, my job is to help you build technique that holds up under pressure, and to strengthen your acting through song so your storytelling lands clearly and truthfully.

In our lessons, you’ll get:
Singing technique training: efficient set up, breath and pressure balance, resonance, registration and mix coordination, stamina, and clean onset and release
Acting through song support: clear intention, truthful impulse, and text clarity that reads without adding tension to the voice
Body and breath work: to release holding patterns and keep the voice free and responsive
Personalised feedback: precise, singer specific adjustments you can apply immediately

And yes, I speak very bad Mandarin, but it helps me work with non native English speakers with empathy and humour.
