About Olivia

Currently, I’m a high-school junior attending Chippewa Valley High School in the Metro-Detroit area. I am—and always have been—intellectually curious and enjoy sharing and learning with others. I began to prosper academically around sixth grade when I won the Macomb County Bar Association Law Day Essay Contest and organized a school-wide water bottle drive to help the city of Flint. In regards to standardized testing such as PSAT’s and NWEA’s I have always ranked within the top 25%. Currently, I am involved in clubs such as the National Honors Society, Business Professionals of America, Student Safety Group, and Student Advisory Committee as well as varsity sideline and competitive cheer. Recently, I placed second in the state when competing in management, marketing, and human resourse concepts, eleventh in the state in digital marketing concepts, as well as second in the region in digital marketing concepts and global marketing team. As for tutoring, I currently tutor twins. Before tutoring the majority of their grades were Fs. Now, three weeks and 6 sessions later they have no Fs and the majority of their grades are above Cs!

About the lesson

One of my post-secondary endeavors include psychology allowing me to understand the brain and its functions including how we learn and memorize. I utilize this knowledge in my tutoring strategy by teaching proven techniques to enhance learning and memory to my students in which they can continue to use throughout their academic careers. Also, as a fellow student I am up to date with the current technologies students are using which is incredibly important given the rapid advancements covid has brought. That being said, Zoom is just the bare minimum. Students were thrown into navigating complicated computer software systems with minimal direction as the basis of their education. Evidently, It’s vital tutors understand these systems. Now, I am best equipped in English language arts (grammar, essays, comprehension, etc.) and mathematics (preferably grades 6-9) but can also benefit in a diverse selection of courses. Additionally, in-between sessions I can provide additional materials and resources for students in related and/or unrelated subjects as well as revise and edit their work; although, these additional factors will affect pricing. Lastly, I would like access to student’s grade portal such as PowerSchool and course planners such as Schoology, Microsoft 365, and Google Classroom so that I can keep up to date with current learning material to plan lessons in advance.
