About Raul
The skills I cultivated from my time in the financial sector and university are: empathy, patience, creativity, and a philosophical understanding of concepts.
Empathy is important to be a teacher because we must understand what our students are facing both in school and outside of school, in order to ensure their development as students and people. I believe I can relate to the struggles of many first-generation students and help teach them in a way that they feel heard and are actively being pushed to critically think in order to develop their skills.
Patience is a virtue and as a teacher -- patience is essential. Students all learn through different methodologies and have different values, meaning we must take the time to identify what each student needs to succeed while not rushing to a one-size fits all approach.
Creativity is another skill that I believe I possess in order to make the classroom environment fun. Learning must be fun and refreshing at times to keep the students critically thinking but happy.
Lastly, my philosophical background has given me a profound respect for all aspects of knowledge. I love asking questions, learning new things and exploring other perspectives so, I will I advocate for my students to do the same in order for them to not just memorize material but learn concepts.
