About Yihan

Yihan Jin is a Chinese pianist. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Piano Performance at the Royal College of Music under the supervision of Dr Christina Guillaumier and Professor Kenneth Hamilton. Her research focuses on how the greatest pianists from the last century to the present day infuse individuality into their interpretations of Prokofiev’s Piano Sonatas. Before starting her PhD, she earned a Master of Performance with distinction from the RCM. Yihan is an Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy(AFHEA). She has also been selected as an ordinary member of the Royal Musical Association Student Committee, devoting herself to student-related activities of the association. Recent engagements include the April 2025 Thinking of a PhD event open to postgraduate and undergraduate students across the UK, the October 2025 Southampton Annual Conference, and the January 2026 RMA/BFE Research Student Conference at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. As an enthusiastic educator and translator, Yihan has visited numerous major conservatoires and universities in China, including the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Xi’an Conservatory of Music, Shenzhen University, and South China Normal University, where she has assisted with UK–China projects, masterclasses, and academic lectures. She was also a guest translator for the Shanghai Music Publishing House Livestream Salon. As a pianist, Yihan has performed at numerous venues in the UK, including the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Shrewsbury St Chad’s Church, and Haslemere Methodist Church, as well as internationally at the City Hall of Paris, the Regional Conservatory of Versailles, the Médiathèque de l’Europe, and the Guangdong Opera House VFun Concert Hall. She was also invited to premiere works by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and has worked with the Cardiff University Orchestra, Cardiff University Chamber Orchestra, and BBC Arile Orchestra.

About the lesson

In my piano lessons, my students feel encouraged and inspired to explore the musical world. I create personalised plans for students of different ages and levels, tailored to their individual goals. I grew up in a family of accomplished teachers, which inspired my passion for education. My current students range from beginners and music lovers to those pursuing their Artist Diploma at major UK conservatoires. Many of my younger learners have achieved excellent results in ABRSM and Trinity exams and hold school music scholarships. I either go to students’ homes (a £10 travel fee applies), or they are welcome to my regular teaching studio in Gloucester Road. I offer lessons in either English or Chinese, depending on the student’s preference.

Details

Lessons are offered in minimum one-hour sessions, with fees starting at £65 for beginners, £70 for intermediate students, and £75 for advanced students. Once a weekly lesson slot is confirmed, students are required to agree to my teaching terms, including commitment and cancellation policies.
