About Karen
I have always been a student of the English language. My degree is in English. As a published writer, I strive to find the right word for the right situation and believe in dictionaries, thesauruses, and grammar usage texts to guide me. I enjoy reading and encouraged my own children to read as they grew.
As a tutor, I would help a student to improve their writing, seeking the creativity that exists in their words. I applaud students who try to understand words for which they have no familiarity and reassure them with gentle correction when they struggle with those words. No student should be ashamed or ridiculed for trying.

I believe that having a great vocabulary and thorough understanding of the written word is primary to advancing through most any career. Knowing how and where to find answers with the proper guidance lends a confidence to any student in continuing their academic life, for learning never ends for the truly motivated. A student takes the things they learn with them into their professional life if they do the necessary work with a helping hand from a dedicated tutor as opposed to being given the answers to solve their problems.
Elementary and Middle School: I will provide you with vocabulary lists and guide you to writing complete sentences. You will learn to recognize the correct use of certain commonly misused words.
Middle and High School: You will continue to increase your vocabulary and improve your usage of grammar. Sentence structure will be a large part of your lessons based on your classroom requirements. I will help you to find the precise word you need to finish essays.
High School and beyond: I will proofread, edit, and guide your vocabulary usage in your essays and papers in order to assure a concise rendering of your ideas. I will help you to understand sentence and paragraph structure such that the flow of your writing is legible.
