About Nancy

I have taught grades 1 - 12 over a span of ten years. My initial experience was teaching high school social studies. During my experience as a content area teacher, I found it necessary to supplement instruction with reading strategies. Since then, I have tutored several students both individually and in small groups. I am an experienced classroom teacher with certification in Special Reading and Secondary Social Studies. I possess a M.A. in Special Reading from Webster University. I provide reading instruction for students K - Adult and reading in the content area(s) as well.
Lesson plans are individually tailored according to initial and on-going assessments. Assessment tools evaluate reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary development, phonics, and phonemic awareness.
I teach students a variety of researched-based strategies using read-alouds, interactive note taking, graphic organizers, questioning the text, making inferences, visualization, and summerization.
Student progress documented often and communicated with the student, guardian and teacher.
