About Katie
Hi, I'm Katie. I live in the Washington, D.C. suburbs and have taught at elementary schools for 12 years. I currently work as a Reading Specialist. I enjoy getting to know my students and tailoring my lessons to meet their needs. I believe that it is important to build a rapport with my students so that we build an environment of trust as well as willingness to take risks and make mistakes.

I use a combination of activities, such as visual drills, auditory drills, and games. My lesson plan would depend on the student, but it would likely involve review, new material, then a game. I tailor my lessons for the needs of each student and check in with them about how they feel the lesson is going. My class is for anyone who wants to receive phonics instruction, and I am Orton-Gillingham trained.
