About Melanie

I began playing violin at 9 years old and started teaching at the age of 16. I currently play in a band and enjoy performing once again. Music's not just about techniques or notes, it’s another language in order to be expressive. For me, music was an emotional outlet and was healing for my soul. I enjoy teaching others and watching them grow, and I found in teaching that oftentimes I learn lessons right alongside my students. I’ve now been teaching for over 20 years and I still find new things all the time to learn, different styles and techniques, or even different interpretations. If you enjoy learning, it’s an area that the learning is never complete.

About the lesson

I have several methods that I’ve used over the years. I do not teach a traditional Suzuki style, but I do use the musical pieces because they are great for building skills. It also builds confidence through repetition, plus gives you the advantage of being able to listen to it to know what it’s supposed to sound like as opposed to guessing and hoping that what is being played is correct. I utilize scales as warmups as well as for ear training and conditioning. For beginners, I also use the All for Strings method. This method I’ve found works great for teaching the foundations of note reading and music theory. I’ll be there every step, during frustrating moments to help encourage and work through difficulties and watch you break through plateaus into success.
