About Michaela
I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Mathematics. I have been tutoring for about 2 years. Previously, I tutored at the 3rd grade and 5th grade level, where my students were transitioning from homeschool to public school. I helped them get up to speed with the public school curriculum. Although, I have not taught students in higher level courses, I am confident in my skills to teach higher level mathematics.

I like to work through examples of problems because I do believe that "practice makes perfect." I usually have the student to pick out the problem that they believe they will have the most trouble with, then walk through that problem with them. I do this in order to better understand their way of thinking and problem solving, because as a tutor I am not trying to have the student adopt my way of thinking, I am trying to better tune their own way thinking such that they better understand the topic.
When a student gets frustrated if they aren't understanding a concept, I like to start clean from the beginning and then move forward from there. I aim to build up their confidence in themselves, as well as conceptually in whatever subject we are working on.
As a tutor, I believe that positivity and patience are keys to a great tutoring session! I believe that a positive attitude is contagious, therefore with my positive attitude I will encourage my student to also have a positive attitude. With patience, I am able to encourage the student to learn at their own pace.
