About Josephine

I am a flute player and recent first-class graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and now working at Wells Cathedral School. As well as my degree, I hold as an ABRSM Flute Diploma, A* in A Level Music, 9 in GCSE Music and hold ABRSM Grade 5 Theory.

I most recently performed alongside the Welsh National Opera on piccolo, and as Principal Flute with the RWC Symphony Orchestra, playing in St. David's Hall. I was also a member of the English Schools' Orchestra playing in Cadogan Hall and held principal seats for many years in my Surrey county and town wind orchestras, which included tours across Europe.

As a soloist and chamber musician, I was awarded the prize for flute (as well as voice and harp) at RWCMD, have been a finalist in the All Flutes Plus Prize for 3 years running, as well as performing a concerto with the Surrey County Youth Wind Orchestra in 2020.

I am a member of Res Novus, a guitar and flute duo, and in 2021, I co-founded the Anatis Flute Trio, who have since secured concerts across the UK, as well as working with Making Music Changing Lives.

Passionate about teaching and music education, I have worked with the National Children's Orchestra, the Benedetti Foundation and have led workshops in local Cardiff-based schools and am looking forward to my work with the Wells Cathedral School.

About the lesson

I've been teaching for the past five years, across ages from 6 to 65 and abilities, teaching from beginner level and your first notes, to coaching for conservative auditions and giving an outside perspective from your teachers or own practice.

Therefore, lessons are tailored to the student and what they want to learn and how they learn best! This way you can reach your potential and your goals in a supportive, fun environment.

I'm all about having a strong enjoyment for music and our lessons, helping to build confidence and ability simultaneously. From learning Disney songs to Beethoven, I look to develop technique and sound and a passion for the music you're playing.

I'm friendly and patient and look forward to working with you :)
