About Stephan
Hi! My name is Stephan Carpenter and I'm a cum laude graduate from the University of Louisville. One of my degrees had a concentration in Creative Writing that covered fiction writing, creative nonfiction, poetry, and the teaching of creative writing. My writing earned me a creative writing scholarship during my time at UofL. My capstone teaching of creative writing had me going to high school creative writing classes and leading workshops.
In addition to creative writing, I had other concentrations in Film Studies, Art History, and another degree in Theatre Arts. The courses in these programs had me doing a lot of analysis and research papers in both MLA and Chicago style formatting. Many of these essays were over in 10 pages in length so I feel comfortable on helping with essay writing at varying length.
I have a passion for helping people tell their stories and am confident I can help you tell yours!

My goal in the teaching of writing is to develop the student’s processes as writers rather than having the students focus solely on the product. Many times in my own academic career, I was simply told to write something. There were instructions, yet they were minimal. They discussed formatting, paper length, and a broad statement of what we were to write about. These instructions offered little guidance on how to achieve our goals. Many students and I found ourselves stuck. Therefore, as an educator, I have three objectives: help students understand different processes for idea generation, push the boundaries of cultural and societal norms and rules, and foster a comfortable feedback environment that uplifts the writer in ways that best serve their needs.
