About John David
At short notice (three weeks) I succeeded in creating history lesson plans for a class of 60 out-of-country students from China and was hired by the Queen's University Faculty of Education to deliver this 8 week course in understanding Canadian History.
I am an award-winning historical fiction author, with numerous published history, professional and technical papers on my CV. I have four university degrees: A BA in History (UWaterloo), MPA (Master of Public Administration in Health Care) (Queen's University, MA History, (Queen's) and Ph.D History (Queen's). I was nominated by Queen's University History Department to help lead the History Committee of the Great Lakes Museum to prepare for the imminent arrival of a Titanic-era passenger liner, the S.S. Keewatin, to be a museum ship in Kingston Harbour.

My approach to teaching is similar to my attitude to writing -- above all make it accessible appealing and as entertaining as possible to all kinds of people of all ages.
A lesson Plan for Indigenous History, for example, would include deep background (geology, natural environment) and how those things strongly influenced Indigenous culture in various places. I would attempt as much as possible to refer to Indigenous sources for the history, including personal appearances when possible, and as wide a variety of cultural reference points to generate a lasting comprehension and empathy.
As a tutor I am funny, have a deep understanding of life after working for 50 years and being married for almost that time, with a grown 31 year old daughter. I understand practical things (built a 32-foot sailboat from scratch), teamwork (managed medical laboratories in life-and-death situations) and I am a very patient teacher.
I adjust my language and teaching plan to the audience, whether teenager or senior, and do not assume prior knowledge. I enjoy questions from my students at any time.
