About Antonius
I studied Criminology and Sociology at the University of Sussex, graduating with a high 2:1. My dissertation explored “How do young adults use fashion and music derived from subcultures to form and express their deviant identities?”, examining themes such as identity construction, the role of subcultures, and the influence of social groups on self-expression. Alongside this, I was awarded a First for essays on topics including Goffman and Bourdieu’s insights into the body, critically engaging with concepts such as habitus, capital, and field. My work extended these ideas into contemporary contexts, from the formation of a ‘digital habitus’ in online spaces to sociological analyses of urban environments, education inequality, and penology. I particularly enjoyed applying classical sociological theory to modern issues, using frameworks like Bourdieu’s to understand how identity, culture, and social hierarchies are constantly reshaped. Since graduating, I’ve also travelled widely across Southeast Asia, which has given me new perspectives and a more global outlook. This experience helps me bring balance to my teaching: combining academic depth with a relaxed, approachable style that makes learning feel accessible and engaging. Sociology and Criminology remain my favourite subjects to teach at GCSE, A-level, and undergraduate level. My goal is to help students not only grasp key theories and debates, but also develop the confidence to apply them effectively in essays and exams. Lessons are structured but never pressurised — I aim to create a supportive environment where progress feels natural and students can even enjoy the subject along the way.
