About Ellen
I graduated from Boston University with a BA in biology and a minor in computer science. Throughout my K-12 and college experience, I definitely struggled learning certain subjects. I have practiced many ways of learning and hope to share these different strategies and find something that works for my students!
Additionally, I don't want my students to view me as another teacher. I want my students to feel comfortable and not as though I am an authoritative person who will shame them for making mistakes. I encourage mistakes!! It's how I learn--it is how we learn.

I like to approach my lessons with the goal of encouraging my students to gain confidence in their own ability to learn and perform academically. Our first session will be half spent assessing the student's strengths, how they approach a challenging problem, and what learning methods work best for them. The other half will be spent supporting and addressing their needs.
I typically like to involve students in their own learning by asking them to continue with their logical, though not "classroom correct" to see why their methods differ from what was taught in class by their teachers.
One word I always avoid using is "wrong." I believe this word is discouraging and there is no objectively "wrong" way to learn! I want my students to leave the session more confident in their abilities as an academic!
