About Andrew
Hello! I'm excited to be working with you! My name is Andrew and have been working with kids for many years now in their academic and athletic endeavors. In high school I helped tutor middle school students biology and taught soccer to kids from all ages and talents. Whether it's coaching soccer or math, I love using new, fun, and creative approaches to subjects that many students (including me when I was in school) feel defeated or uninterested in. My first approach is to reinvigorate a sense of natural interest and curiosity in the relevant subject. As I am in research and planning to get a PhD in neuroscience, my first love is biology and chemistry, however, I also really enjoy to help students with math and Spanish as well.

I take specialized approaches with each subject and student knowing that the best learning style for one student isn't the best learning style for another. First, I like to talk to the student about the subject: what they find interesting, what they find challenging, etc. This allows me to gauge the confidence level the student is working with and the barriers inhibiting them from fully immersing themselves. After many years tutoring students, two of the biggest factors I see in a student's ability to succeed in a subject is the confidence in dealing with material and their level of curiosity in that subject. What sets me apart as a tutor is cultivating a natural sense of curiosity in the subject. When curiosity, interest, and confidence are built, the child learns the skills to succeed on their own. Once this is developed, often there are fundamental concepts that traverse different sections within the same subject. Often it is these fundamental concepts that are overlooked and prevent the student from being able to conceptually relate different concepts to each other. Especially with subjects such as biology and chemistry, taking a holistic approach and showing how certain concepts (often taught in isolation of each other) can be combined to strengthen the fundamental framework the student is using to approach that subject.
