About Alex
I have recently graduated with a 2:1 from the University of Portsmouth. In Sixth form I offered mostly free tutoring to family and younger siblings of friends, however on occasion I would provide some freelance paid tutoring further afield, often to the children of my parents friends and colleagues. During this time I also volunteered in a year 9 maths class at my school which would often involve one to one assistance for struggling students.

Whenever I've tutored in the past, I've tried to isolate specific areas the students struggle with. I've found this to be particularly helpful if a difficult subject for the student is a foundation for other topics, since a lot of mathematics is just building on other elements or applying them in a different context. By having the student come to me with difficulties, I can learn what they're already comfortable with and - in some cases - use this existing knowledge to help them understand the areas they're less comfortable with.
