About Amy
I am a recent graduate from McGill University where I completed a major in psychology, a minor in behavioural science, and a minor in music. My teaching experience began at the age of twelve where I mentored younger students in topics of violin, piano, and music theory throughout the duration of my high school degree. More recently I have held the positions of ESL camp counsellor and ESL camp director where I worked with youths who visited Canada from all over the world to learn English. I am passionate about teaching and I emphasize the importance of creating strong connections with those I work with.

My teaching methodology varies widely as I find it is hugely dependant on the subject at hand. As a music teacher I structured classes based on repertoire selected by myself and my students, and on their goals for the upcoming year. Preparing a student for end-year recitals was vastly different as compared to the preparation required for technical examinations. As a music theory teacher I worked with students through a set curriculum dictated by the exams they would sit at the end of the year. Finally, as a camp counsellor and director, I taught youths English in the context of informal but engaging settings. Throughout social events I would challenge my campers to expand their English vocabulary by demonstrating alternative and extended ways to express themselves, gently correcting grammatical inaccuracies, and inventing games constructed around the introduction of new words and phrases.
Above all, the most important aspect of my teaching methodology was to employ a specific degree of personalization to each circumstance. Having multiple methods of approaching the same subject is important, and recognizing what is best suited for each student is a critical aspect of the process.
