About Matt

Having already received piano lessons growing up, I picked up the bass aged 15 and never looked back, practising whenever I could. My early influences included Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bootsy Collins and the great Jaco Pastorius. Now as part of the burgeoning London Jazz fusion scene I take a lot of influence from Hadrien Feraud of Spirit Fingers and Thundercat.

I wish to teach because I recognise the importance of having a guide to help people through both the early and later stages of playing bass whilst still being encouraged to find your own personal style. I don’t want your lessons to be cookie cutter, when it comes to your musical education you deserve a hands on approach! Nothing brings me more joy than seeing one of my students progress and slowly fall more and more in love with this instrument and music as a whole.

About the lesson

As a highly regarded bass guitarist having gone through Jazz School, I understand more than anyone the importance of a personally tailored approach to teaching and to encourage someone’s own style and individuality in playing, something often overlooked by tutors or indeed universities! Offering reasonable rates and the ability to travel all over London, consider me as your tutor and I will help find your voice as well as helping you through the grades process, sightreading and any other skill you could wish to learn.
