About Ken
I was trained in biochemistry (Ph.D.) and later learned neurobiochemistry and behavioral psychology. I have trained about 15 Ph.D. students, 10 postdoctoral fellows and have published 162 scientific publications and a number of book chapters. About half of the fellows in my lab were trained oversees, so I have experience teaching English writing to foreign students and postdocs. I recently retired as a Professor Emeritus from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. I live in Galveston and Austin, and could be available in Austin and the Galveston-Clear Lake area.

As a teacher, my first job is thoroughly understand the students goals, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. My approach would be to build confidence on strengths so as to extend confidence to improving the students weaknesses. I always begin at a level where the student feels comfortable. Also, I think it is important to make sure that the student understands the importance of what is being presented. This will be accomplished by presenting the importance of a particular pathway mediating health or toxicity.

Details
Basically, I would charge less per hour as the number of hours agreed to. For example, 1-4 hrs. would cost $30/hour while 5-9 hours would be $25/hour and 10 hours or more would cost $20/hour.
I would not charge for driving 10 miles one-way (or less), but more than 10 miles would cost one dollar/mile.
