About Anita
I have taught in academics for the past 25 years as a visiting faculty, research assistant professor, and high school instructor. My strengths are in personalized instruction and I foster a sense of discussion in small groups and an openness to listen and build meaningful relations with my students in a professional sense.
I am kind and compassionate and prefer to encourage rather than discourage as a mentor. I have come from a small liberal arts setting (Trinity College, Hartford, CT) as value depth in learning and teaching. I believe learning is a life-long act and the appreciation to keep learning is critical in being a tutor.
I am a deep thinker as I spent years in academic research and I hope to share appropriate details with my students about that.

My lessons are personalized to my students strengths and goals.
In chemistry, I find it essential to focus on problem-solving skills. I work from the framework the students are meaning we use the textbook they are learning from. I hope to help my students to be able to sit down and take a test or examination and excel in that even when the tests are multiple choice. I teach my students to organize their approach to a problem by writing things down (either on the computer or paper). I teach students what terms mean and how to conceptualize an equation in practical ways.
In biochemistry, the visuals are quite important so we must consider the structure-function relationships of cells and macromolecules and molecular complexes. I teach on the basis that students need to be able to write intelligent discussions on the subject material not just short answer and multiple choice. I teach them to think, interpret, and write on structure and mechanisms. I believe with technology we can frame this best.
In natural science, discussion with the students is critical. Building a dialogue with my students is important for me.
