About Barbara
My name is Mrs Shaughnessy, and I bring over 20 years of experience teaching Mathematics and Physics to students aged 11 to 25. I specialise in GCSE Maths and Physics, and also support university foundation year and adult learners. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and hold a PGCAP, reflecting my commitment to high-quality, student-centred teaching in both school and higher education settings. I have taught across a wide range of curricula including Edexcel, AQA, OCR, WJEC, Scottish Higher, Advanced Higher, International Baccalaureate, and University Foundation Programmes. My approach is focused on clarity, structure, and real-world application—helping students truly understand concepts and build confidence in problem-solving. I use a variety of digital tools, past paper packs, and my own question banks to reinforce learning in an engaging way.

My lessons are tailored to each student's goals, whether it's preparing for exams, filling gaps in knowledge, or challenging high-achievers. I also enjoy teaching statics and mechanics, especially to students with STEM ambitions. Outside teaching, I enjoy exploring nature and walking. I believe learning should be empowering, enjoyable, and lifelong.
