I have a unique view of Pam Kaatz's abilities as a Spanish teacher. In high school she engaged us in deep language learning. After just a three-year high school language learning experience, I placed out of junior level Spanish and one semester of senior level Spanish. She developed such a love for me of the language and culture that I majored in Spanish and prepared to also teach Spanish.
Here we became colleagues. With Pam's leadership and deep understanding of the language, we began to teach other teachers how to kindle a similar understanding of language. I watched Pam's strategies evolve so that students were actively involved in their own learning and had the ability to self-correct and enter new vocabulary and grammar constructions with ease. I moved on to an administrative position and watched her practice continue to grow to the point that she was named Texas Foreign Language Teacher of the year. We were friends and colleagues for a number of years before I met and married her brother-in-law. So, even though the names are now the same, my experience with her as a teacher and as a colleague are previous to my joining the family. Pam has the unique ability to communicate in such a way that all learners develop understanding of the target language. She is a masterful foreign language teacher.

I met Pamela when I first travel to USA and stayed with her and her family over a month. I must say that experience with her really improved my English skills. Since she has a great level of Spanish, she could easily understand what I was trying to say, moreover she corrected my pronunciation and the use of the language. I totally recommend her as a teacher, she is kind, patient and use great examples during her lessons.

I am a former student of Pam Kaatz. She was my 10th grade Spanish teacher at Haltom High School back in 1988-89. We have stayed in close touch over more than 30 years because Pam was undoubtedly the best teacher I've ever had. She always believed in my abilities and encouraged me to open my mind and explore other countries and cultures. She also genuinely and sincerely cared about me and made me feel like I was important to her.

I learned Spanish from Pam via her Spanish Verb Wall. It was so innovative and really helped me to actually SPEAK Spanish intuitively and with confidence. When I moved to California the year after I was in Pam’s class, the Spanish classes there were just a lot of worksheets and rote memorization and conjugation that I did not find as helpful in learning and speaking Spanish as Pam's Verb Wall had been.

Pam is also great at using songs and music to help us learn natural Spanish phrases and grammar that are actually used in the real world by real people.

Thanks to Pam, I have used my Spanish language skills in many of the jobs I have held. I have translated Spanish for patients in medical clinics; held workshops in Mexico on how to use engineering software; written technical manuals in Spanish; and also helped Spanish-speaking clients who needed legal advice. I’ve also made many new friends along the way.
