About Laura
Teaching is my 2nd career, after 20 years in retail I asked myself what other profession would I enjoy? Teaching came to my mind, some of my relatives are teachers and they love it. I received my elementary teaching certification in 2007 and began my teaching career. I absolutely love teaching and I can't imagine my life without my students and their families.

My lessons are tailored to each students needs, I like to find out where the students deficiencies are and start from there. If, for instance, it's a reading skill like comprehension that the student needs help on, we will read a story (one that interests them) together and go from there. As we read the story, I will ask questions along the way, if they don't know a certain word or phrase I like to show them a picture so that they have a reference point and then continue reading. At the end of the story, I will ask more questions (setting, characters. main idea etc.) to try and raise their comprehension of that story.
