I have both a BA and MA degree in pure mathematics.
I earned my MA in mathematics from the historic City College of NY (CCNY) and my BA degree in Mathematics from The College of Staten Island both of The City University of New York (CUNY)

About the lesson

My name is Steven Gottlieb. I am a retired full time college math professor and a professional math tutor with over 10,000 hours of tutoring experience. I have both a BS and an MA degree in Mathematics. As a trained mathematician I naturally think in a mathematical way. I do not believe in pure memorization but rather I believe that one should be taught to understand how to think through and solve any math problem. In my honest opinion, a good math tutor should stimulate understanding. Since I understand the steps in solving a math problem, I teach my students in a way that is simplified and clear, that they will remember much of what I show them for life. Having been a private math tutor for over 35 years I have learned how to customize my teaching to suit my students' learning styles. My experience includes basic math through graduate level math. I have a smart board (electronic whiteboard) and anything that I write on it will appear on your computer screen in real time. This type of tutoring is advantageous because I record the entire tutoring session; the student has access to the recording for life. The student is free to watch the recording whenever they like, as often as they like. Another advantage is that the sessions are interactive and students are free to ask questions. I prefer to use my own Smart Technology software which allows me to write with a marker pen; this is so much easier than using a mouse because I can write faster, clearer and hence I get to cover more material per session.
