About Sylvia
I have a teaching degree along with two math degrees and many years of experience teaching STEM-related mathematics courses (Algebra through Calculus) in both high school and community college settings. In my lessons, I incorporate organizational skills and growth mindset philosophies that students have found both helpful and transferable to other classes. I enjoy helping and celebrating students as they unlock their "mysteries of mathematics" in a safe and supportive environment. I am available weekdays, mornings and afternoons.

In my tutoring sessions, I want to get to know you and to effectively and efficiently help you with understanding mathematics. Sessions begin with friendly conversations to assess what needs to be covered in the allotted time and to establish a safe-to-ask-questions-zone. Sample problems are provided (by either student or instructor), detailed written and oral explanations are given, and questions are encouraged to ensure understanding. As your tutor, I also provide you with all the written notes covered in the session and short explanation videos for examples not completed during the session. I specialize in university level STEM math classes (College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus).
