About Barbara
A bit about me.
As I stated I am a retired reading specialist but teaching was my 3rd career. I secured my B.S. in Health Science and a Certification as an Anesthesia Assistant from Case Western Reserve University. I worked as an anesthetist for 18 years. I went back to school and became a massage therapist. I owned my massage office for 10 years. As my son entered school I knew there was a problem with his learning. I researched and studied different teaching methods to support him. I then secured my Master's in Elementary Education and started my third career. I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades and then became a reading specialist after my principal realized my success in teaching reading to struggling students.
I have been married to my husband for 45 years. We have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. I was the Girl Scout leader for my daughter's troop from Daisys through Seniors.

About the lesson

My lessons are one hour long.
1. Phonics education X 20 minutes. Active work on a magnetic board ($50.00, I will send to you.)
2. Reading in specialty books that support the phonics lessons. X 20 minutes
3. Vocabulary and writing X 20 minutes that also supports the phonics lesson.
My son is a twice-exceptional student. He has an IQ of 172 but he was diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder and 3 other learning disabilities. He was unable to absorb any reading instruction throughout kindergarten and 1st grade. I adopted this curriculum after his first-grade year. He returned to school for 2nd-grade reading on grade level. He is now in Medical School!
