About Olivia
Hello! My name is Olivia Abell. I am from Baltimore, MD, but am currently a junior in college studying at Denison University. I love math, and am pursuing a bachelors degree in math, but in my free time I like to hangout with friends, practice yoga, cook, and sing. I am super excited to start tutoring, and cannot wait to meet you!

My teaching approach is to devise unique, engaging methods to solve problems. Specifically for younger students, involving technology when appropriate, visual aids, etc. to foster positive associations with learning.
A lesson plan would first entail a brief refresher of what was taught in the last tutoring session in the form of a quick worksheet exercise, or the student verbally communicating what they remember. If the student has any requests for what they want to work on, I would address that now through trying to understand where their confusion comes from, provide examples of the problem type their struggling with, etc. Then we would get into the heart of the lesson, which will involve worksheets, visual components, and/or videos.
My experience as a current college student sets me apart. I am still learning about math, and have to create unique methods for myself to understand the information from time-to-time. Considering I am still a student, I am able to empathize with younger students that may be struggling with a concept and am able to teach them from a place of compassion and understanding of their frustration.
I am open to tutoring students from elementary school to high school in any subject, but specifically mathematics.
