About Joshua
Professional Background and Legitimacy
As an RMIT Computer Science graduate and a former instructor at Kumon—globally renowned for its rigorous academic framework—I bring a high standard of precision, dedication, and professional reliability to every session. My academic journey through a demanding STEM degree, combined with years of hands-on experience mentoring students of diverse backgrounds, has equipped me with a deep, practical understanding of how students learn best. I am committed to maintaining a structured, punctual, and encouraging environment where accountability and academic excellence go hand in hand. You can trust that your educational investment is backed by genuine credentials and a proven track record of student success.
My Tutoring Approach and Methodology
My teaching philosophy is built on strong foundational skills, structured repetition, and real-world problem-solving. Kumon taught me the immense value of mental agility, independence, and mastering core concepts before moving on to advanced material. Meanwhile, my computer science background allows me to show students how abstract math and logic directly translate into building software, websites, and games.
My lessons are designed for high school and undergraduate students who want to build genuine confidence in math or programming—whether they are struggling to keep up, aiming for top marks, or looking to dive deeper into tech.
Lesson Structure and Details
Target Audience: High school students (VCE or general secondary) and undergraduate university students.
Typical Lesson Length: 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the complexity of the topic.
Techniques: We start with a quick review of core concepts and past problem areas, move into guided, step-by-step practice inspired by proven foundational methods, and finish with practical, hands-on application (coding exercises or real-world math applications).

We've really appreciated the support with Year 11 Methods lately! Kumon can sometimes feel a bit repetitive or drill-heavy for the kids, but having you work with Mohammad one-on-one has made a huge difference. You've brought a lot more patience and actual explanation to the table, rather than just having them push through worksheets.
Josh has been fantastic with helping my child settle into Year 9 math. They're super patient, explain tricky algebra concepts in a way that actually makes sense, and always keep things encouraging. The only small thing is it would be great to do a quick warm-up on fractions or old basics at the start of sessions just to make sure those foundations are completely solid before moving on to new stuff. Overall, really happy with the progress so far!
