About Robert
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have wide-ranging experience as a Head of Mathematics and Computing and Examinations Officer in the Secondary Sector and as a Deputy Headtecher in the Middle/Primary Sector. I started tutoring as an AgeUK Trans-age Volunteer working with Years 9 and 10 students who are struggling to make progress with their Mathematical education.
I also tutor high-achieving, years 10, 11 And 12, students, guiding them towards achieving a Grade 9 pass in the new GCSE Maths exam as well as KS2 and KS3 students who are struggling to make progress with their Mathematical education. I have now taken on my first 'A-level' student who is rapidly gaining in understanding, confidence and improved level of performance.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a current and automatically checked/renewed Enhanced CRB Certification with Islington as well as a current certificate through AgeUK.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Three years ago, I started tutoring a student who had missed a large amount of time and learning who was desperate to gain a 'C' grade in Maths at GCSE to enable them to 'start over' at Sixth Form level. They were successful and achieved a 'C' grade and have settled really well in their new Sixth Form.
I am supporting, on a voluntary basis, a year 10 student who is struggling with their GCSE Maths. My other students are high-achievers, ranging from years 10 to 12 who feel the need to supplement their school-based education with our 1 on 1 sessions.
Currently I am working with high-achieving years 10, 11 and 12 students, guiding them towards A-level success, or a grade 9 pass in the new GCSE Maths exams; and with year 6 and year 8 students, helping them to make progress with their Mathematical education.

I am a retired Mathematics and General Subjects teacher keen to use my proven expertise and wide-ranging experience to help and guide students of all backgrounds and abilities towards successful outcomes in their Mathematical studies.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Mathematics, from Basic Numeracy to AS Level.
( More information given below in 'How much do you charge ? )
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated from the University of Leeds with a BSc Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering. After two years in the Chemical Processing Industry, I gained a PGCE in Mathematics and Technology from the University of Keele.
- How much do you charge?
I charge from £30 an hour for face to face sessions and from £25 an hour for ‘Skype’ sessions.
I make no extra charge for convenient travel to student homes.
I am happy to offer tuition at my own flat.
All first sessions are given on a 'No charge if not satisfied' basis !
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at students' homes but will consider tuition at my own flat or on-line tuition.. I am prepared to travel to convenient homes in Muswell Hill, Alexandra Palace, Hornsey and Crouch End.
- When are you available?
I am currently available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after normal school hours.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have wide-ranging experience, having successfully taught students from 8 years old through to adults.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I focus on GCSE and AS levels, but will be happy to consider preparing students for other qualifications.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
After an initial face to face session, charged at my full rate, I would be prepared to tutor students online, at a reduced cost of £25 per hour, preferably on Wednesday afternoons / evenings. I would provide the student with A4 whiteboards, erasable pens and copies of any resources / sources needed but they would need to make their own IT provision.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I am at a stage in my life when I want to give others the benefit of the kinds of opportunities that have opened up for me in my lifetime. It is a fact that such opportunities are generally dependant on you achieving a certain level and qualification in Mathematics. I believe I can help you achieve that qualification and hence help you to achieve your objectives in life.
