I personally believe that students learn best when they have a say in their music education. While I do have certain skillsets that I prioritize, I allow students to decide if there are certain songs they would like to learn or any particular techniques that may interest them. In addition to teaching the guitar, I believe in helping budding musicians find their voices as well. Music can change someone's world, and if I can help make a positive impact through lessons, that is always my number one priority.
I am a guitarist that has been playing music for over eight years and have been teaching for the last four. I am in a rock band called Spitphyre and have played notable festivals and venues such as Punk Island, The Pleasantville Music Festival, The Knitting Factory, The Delancey, and many more. I began teaching the guitar and bass at the School of Rock of Orangeburg, which then lead to taking on private lessons and most recently, working at a new Mom and Pop music school called The Rock Shop in Nyack, NY.
Dear Potential Employer,
My name is Jon Thomas Ovadia and I am a music teacher based out of New York City. I have been playing music since I was eleven years old, and since I was sixteen, I have been spreading the joy of music by tutoring and teaching the guitar and electric bass.
I am currently fulfilling my Bachelor's degree at Pace University, and have been looking for work that would allow me to continue to spread the knowledge and joy of music. Before the coronavirus pandemic, I was frequently playing music at my band’s own concerts. Despite not being able to play live music at present, I am still eager to keep myself productive in the musical field. I have since started a radio show that features new music weekly and would be ecstatic to get to teach once again.
Formerly in my Guitar and Bass Instructor position at School of Rock and The Rock Shop, I have been able to hone in on different teaching methods and have now developed one that most efficiently teaches students how to not only play their instrument but fall in love with it as well. Though I have been teaching and playing music for several years, I very clearly remember what worked the best for me as well when I was learning how to play the guitar. I hope to spread a working knowledge and appreciation of music that will send students out into the music world with the ability to write their own songs, collaborate with other artists, learn how to play songs that they enjoy listening to, and expand their knowledge of music as a whole.
For a greater presentation of my background and qualifications, please review my attached resume. I am eager to speak with you and greatly appreciate your consideration.
