About Craig
I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old and began teaching when I was 15. I am now 31 and I'm proud to have taken numerous players to the 'next level', from wherever they began. I have extensive experience in composition, professional recording, performance (from rock bands to musical theater), and session playing (mercenary guitar). I also play other instruments (I would consider my second instrument to be piano, and my third, harmonica). I have produced an album of rock music called 'Akasha', by Craig Shutt, if you wish to get to know some of the music behind the tutor. For those who care: YES, I can SHRED, and I can teach you to shred too - and we'll make sure it's musical.

I do not believe in a set way or orthodox method when it comes to learning music. Every person has their own strengths and weaknesses, and my tactic to ensuring your success is to play to your strengths. Whether it is learning new techniques, or mastering the fretboard, to learn the songs you love, or to improvise, or to write your own songs, there are many paths to reach your goal - my job is to guide you down the path which works best for you!
This means lesson plans are not 'cookie cutter', they are unique to the student. Lessons will vary, but we will always identify your priorities, agree some goals, discuss your strengths and weaknesses, and learn some STUFF to achieve those goals. That stuff might be new techniques, cover songs, how to improvise to a track, writing a riff, or something else. Whatever the activity, I encourage learning by ear, because a good ear is key to being musical, but tablature, notation, and video demonstrations will also be provided.
My lessons are suited to people of all abilities, from brand new players to advanced players who are trying to expand their abilities in some way. My priority is to have the student pursue their passion and achieve their own musical goals. That means I do not make recommendations regarding formal qualifications or exams, but I am happy to help students work toward their Rockschool grades, if they wish to.

I've been playing guitar on and off for about two to three years. I wasn't really having any success with my own schedule, but once I found Craig through this website, I discovered he was actually a very good and patient teacher. We first started with some simple songs and eventually learned to play "Sweet Home Alabama" in about a week. Currently, I see Craig twice a week, and we practice music theory as well as technique. He's very patient during our online sessions, which are super calming. He really gives me the confidence to be creative when I'mI've been playing guitar on and off for about two to three years. I wasn't really having any success with my own schedule, but once I found Craig through superprof, I discovered he was actually a very good and patient teacher. I'm notoriously sensitive and don't handle criticism very well, but Craig was very sensitive and broke through my shell. We first started with some simple songs and eventually learned to play "Sweet Home Alabama" in about a week and a beginners version of "Free Bird" Currently, I see Craig twice a week, and we practice music theory as well as technique. He's very patient during our online sessions, which are super calming. He really gives me the confidence to be creative when I'm with him, and I feel that my growth will be significant in the coming months
I highly recommend any student of any level to try out a few sessions with Craig!!Craig is a phenomenal guitar teacher! As a novice guitar student, I instantly recognized his exceptional ability to connect with my beginner skill level and make learning both enjoyable and effective. Craig's deep knowledge of music theory, combined with his practical teaching methods, ensures that you not only learn to play but also understand and appreciate the music. He is extremely patient, encouraging, and truly passionate about helping you achieve your musical goals. Any student would be fortunate to have Craig as their guitar teacher. I highly recommend!
