About Christopher

I am Christopher Hinton, a certified personal trainer, longtime martial arts and fitness coach, author of the book "Future-Proof Your Body", and the creator of the Kickboxing Underground training system.

I have spent years teaching people how to use kickboxing/Muay Thai/Self defense training as more than just a workout. Done properly, it is an opportunity to learn a real physical skill, authentic striking techniques, challenge yourself, improve coordination, develop confidence, release stress, and become more capable and athletic in your body.

I previously owned and operated a martial arts gym that began as an L.A. Boxing franchise and later became a UFC GYM. Through that experience—and through years of working directly with students—I developed a teaching approach for people who want authentic kickboxing instruction without the pressure, chaos, or intimidation that can come with large group classes.

My lessons are private and in person. I work with each student individually, so there is no need to worry about keeping up with a class, feeling embarrassed as a beginner, or being pushed into something before you understand it. You do not need prior martial-arts experience, exceptional fitness, or a “fighter” personality. You simply need to be willing to learn, allow yourself to be a beginner, and show up with an open mind. This takes all the pressure off you.

My teaching style is structured, patient, and detailed. I teach the techniques carefully, explain why they matter, give you time to practice, and make corrections without overwhelming you. The goal is to help you feel comfortable while steadily building real knowledge and skill.

You will learn a TON about fighting. And you'll never have anything you need to practice or homework when we're not together. But you will still learn very very rapidly. In 12 sessions you'll likely be better than you would after 6 months of a group class, that's how rapidly you learn.

The Kickboxing Underground is private, in-person instruction in practical boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai striking, defensive skills, and self-defense concepts.

You will learn punches such as the jab, cross, hook, and uppercut, along with kicks, knee strikes, elbow strikes, footwork, head movement, defense, positioning and distance management, and the foundational habits that make your movement safer and more effectively.

This is not a “cardio kickboxing” workout. The techniques come from the same broad skill set used in boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, and UFC competition. However, you are never expected to already know them or perform them perfectly. You are learning a new skill, and the program is designed to teach it as you apply it.

Each lesson is one hour and follows the same structured format:

Ten rounds of five minutes each

One-minute break between rounds

A gradual flexibility and warm-up phase

Technique instruction and partner (me) drills.

Heavy-bag training where you apply the skills you are learning

The structure of the session is intentional. You do not need to arrive already energized or “in the mood” to work out. The early rounds help you move, warm up, and settle into the training. The system gradually brings you into the workout so that you can focus on learning rather than worrying about how you feel when you first walk in.

During the beginning portion of the session, I guide you through flexibility work to help prepare your body for the demands of striking. The goal is to improve your ability to move your body through comfortable ranges of motion before we begin more demanding work.

Once the gloves come on, I teach a specific technique, skill, or tactical concept. I demonstrate it, explain what you are trying to accomplish, and have you practice it so I can make corrections as you learn. You do not have to remember things; you only need to focus on the skill in front of you.

The bulk of the lesson takes place on the heavy bag. The bag becomes your opponent. You learn how to apply punches, kicks, head movement, defensive habits, positioning, and combinations in a way that develops both your understanding and your physical conditioning. You will learn how to strike with purpose rather than simply throwing random punches and kicks for exercise.

One of the unique benefits of this training is the sense of flow it can create. Because you are learning and applying techniques, your attention gets pulled away from outside concerns and into the task in front of you. Rather than staring at a clock through a repetitive workout, you are engaged in a physical skill. Many students find that an hour of focused kickboxing training provides a powerful mental reset from the demands of everyday life.

The training will challenge your entire body naturally. Through movement, striking, bracing, bag work, and coordination, you work your arms, shoulders, chest, back, core, legs, and calves without needing to treat the lesson like a checklist of body parts. The focus stays on learning the art and science of combat and enjoying the process; the full-body conditioning is a natural result.

I also teach practical self-defense principles, fight strategy, and common mistakes to avoid. You will build useful knowledge you can carry forward from one lesson to the next. No one lesson turns someone into a fighter, but consistent instruction gives you a steadily growing understanding of how to move, protect yourself, and use striking skills more effectively.

I generally recommend that new students plan for at least 12 sessions. That gives us time to work through one full rotation of the foundational curriculum and gives you enough repetition to begin feeling more natural with the movements. You will not need to be perfect after 12 sessions, but you should have a meaningful base of knowledge, better coordination, improved comfort with the heavy bag, and a clear sense of how much you enjoy this kind of training.

Most students train once per week, which is a practical pace for learning and works well with most schedules and budgets. Twice per month can also work, and some students choose to train more frequently. The important thing is giving yourself enough sessions to truly experience the system and allow the learning to build.
