About Elena

I am a Russian-trained concert pianist and teacher with 23 years of teaching experience and more than two decades of professional performing experience.

I graduated with honours from the Academic Music College at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. I also completed postgraduate studies at the Gnessin Academy and later taught there for several years.

As a soloist and chamber musician, I have performed in concerts, festivals and international tours across Europe, Asia, South America and the CIS. My professional work has also included masterclasses, competitions and jury work.

I am a First Prize winner of the Salieri-Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Verona and the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition in Karlsruhe. I have also recorded two chamber music CDs for the Russian classical label Melodiya.

My teaching is rooted in the Russian classical tradition, in which technique, listening, musical thought and artistic expression are developed together. I translate this professional training into clear and practical work appropriate to each student’s level.

I work with adult beginners, returning pianists, advanced amateurs, motivated teenagers, and students preparing for RIAM, ABRSM or Trinity examinations, auditions and performances.

My aim is not simply to increase the amount of repertoire a student can play. Each new piece should become both an artistically convincing result and a step towards stronger reading, more secure rhythm and technique, a more refined ear, clearer musical understanding and increasingly independent work.

Good piano teaching should achieve two things at once: help the student play the music convincingly now, and build the skills that make the next piece less dependent on the teacher.

A student may prepare one piece after another while important foundations remain weak. Note reading is still slow, rhythm insecure, technique poorly organised, and practice consists mainly of repeating the whole piece and waiting for the teacher to correct it.

My lessons are designed so that the repertoire and the pianist’s own abilities develop together.

Reading, rhythm, coordination, technique, listening, memory, harmony, form, phrasing and expression are developed as parts of one musical system through the music the student is learning.

Before repeating something at the instrument, we first establish what is happening in the score, how the music is organised, where it is moving, what it should sound like, and what the hands need to do to produce that result. We then work phrase by phrase, connecting musical intention with movement and technical organisation.

This approach does not place analysis above practical playing. It prevents the hands from repeating without a clear musical and physical purpose. Technique serves sound and freedom; understanding serves expression; and the finished performance remains an essential result.

For beginners, this means developing secure reading, rhythm, coordination, listening and healthy technical habits from the start. Returning and continuing pianists rebuild missing foundations and learn to organise their practice more effectively. Advanced students refine sound, technique, structure, interpretation, memory and performance reliability.

I prepare students for RIAM, ABRSM and Trinity examinations, as well as music-school assessments, auditions, performances and demanding classical repertoire. Exam preparation includes the musical and technical foundation required for the level, not only the polishing of a fixed programme.

The free introductory lesson offered by Superprof is used to discuss your goals, previous experience, lesson format and whether this approach is the right fit.

The first full working lesson allows me to assess your current foundation, repertoire and practice habits and establish the most useful order of work. Afterwards, you receive a concise written summary of the main priorities and direction of study.

Focused one-off consultations and video assessments are also available for musicians who need professional guidance on a specific problem.

Regular lessons are intended for students who value consistent weekly work and long-term musical development rather than occasional correction of isolated pieces.

A small number of regular weekly places are available for the 2026–27 academic year.
