About John

I have a Ph.D. in Computer Science. I spent the last 10+ years advocating for the government to serve the People. I corresponded extensively in written and multimedia correspondence with local, state and federal agencies and state/federal legislatures. I used CS, FOIA, investigative journalism and Social Media for Guerilla-Gorilla Advocacy to demonstrate we can make our government serve the People.

I base my tutoring on what works for the individual student. I don't care about teaching methodologies: I care about results.

I often teach by example, the best way to learn. I helped my sister learn algebra and writing at Cabrillo College by deconstructing examples of good writing and algebra problems to show mathematical reasoning and what makes good writing. Only someone with a Ph.D. can do this. This is how I learned from my dissertation advisor, world famous linguist Geoffrey Pullum. This is how the best university professors teach students in graduate school; this is how students should be taught at all levels.

I may charge a little extra depending on travel costs. But travel fees should be neglible. I want to give back to the community. If students want, they may be able to receive some free tutoring with me through the Santa Cruz Public Library System.
