About Paul

"Unlock your musical potential and pave your way to success with personalized lessons from a seasoned Jazz musician and educator with over 45 years of experience. I've toured the world with The Frank Zappa Band from 1987-1989 and directed the Jazz program at the world-famous Idyllwild Arts Academy. I've also released several critically acclaimed albums under my name. I have extensive experience guiding students through college applications and auditions. My students have been accepted to the world's most prestigious universities and conservatories, including Juilliard, USC, New England Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Berklee, Eastman, The New School, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Royal College of Music, and more. As the director of Jazz studies at the prestigious Idyllwild Arts Academy (an international performing arts boarding school in Southern California) for over 17 years, I taught the program's Jazz Ensembles, Jazz Theory, Jazz History, Computer Notation, and Saxophone Private lessons. The ensembles have consistently reached 1st place at national festivals and competitions, including the Berklee High School Jazz Festival and the Reno Jazz Festival. Whether you're diving deep into the intricacies of music theory, refining your improvisation skills, or seeking guidance for auditions, I will meet you where you are and take you as far as you would like. Each session is tailored to accommodate your unique learning style and aspirations to help you meet (and exceed) your goals. If you are preparing for college applications, I will help you develop and submit an audition that will get you the most attention from the school or program you want to attend, drawing upon 17 years of experience getting students into the top Jazz programs in the world."
