About Kalyani
I'm a Ph.D. scholar at Kyoto University working at the interface of genetics, neurobiology and bioinformatics, who has also worked as a research assistant at the Indian Institute of Science. With ~7 years of experience in this field, I'm well-versed in research methodology and have published extensively in this area. Over the years, I have come across several students interested either in approaching their research through the lens of "systems biology" or using bioinformatic tools to solve specific biological questions. I have also met people who are curious to understand how this interdisciplinary field works, and the mechanics of holding multiple (collaborating) teams together!
I have always enjoyed interacting with them in person, or via (long!) emails. But, I always regretted not being able to impart this knowledge in a structured format and in detail. This venture is my humble attempt to squash these regrets :)

About the lesson

If you're thinking about pursuing a career in genetics, neurobiology or bioinformatics (or at the interface of all these three disciplines!), I'll be able to impart valuable real-world knowledge on navigating it.
We will focus on:
1) understanding how to use an integrative bioinformatics approach to solve biological questions
2) bioinformatics databases and tools used in genomics and proteomics research
3) designing and executing a capstone project
4) understanding how to create and foster fruitful collaborations!
5) strategies to take care of your mental health, while embarking on research projects!
These topics will be covered in 2-3 months; sessions will be held online and scheduled based on the student's preferences and my availability. STUDENTS CAN SELECT WHICH TOPICS TO LEARN, IF THEY'RE NOT INTERESTED IN TAKING THE COMPLETE COURSE.
Age or qualifications are not a barrier to taking this course. But, I do insist that you come with a strong passion to acquire practical knowledge in this field, alongside learning its underlying philosophy. I'm easy to work with, and have mentored several students (individually and in groups) over the years.
